“I’ll just do it myself, because at least I know it got done and got done right.”
Ah, the famous last words of an exhausted entrepreneur.
If you are anything like me, you’re probably extremely passionate about your business. I mean, this is your dream that you built from the ground up. So you put in long hours, probably skip a meal here and there, and double-check (or triple-check that everything is always perfect). This is most likely driven by the inability to let go of the steering wheel because you can’t bear to see your business fail or stall.
5 Reasons Business Owners Hold Back on Delegation
Most business owners are afraid to give up control because they have this fear that people they hire will not measure up to their expectations. They fear that the failure of others will cause their business to fail. And if they’re a perfectionist (which they probably are) they think it’s easier to do the work themselves. Or they might think that their work is better than others, which isn’t always the case. Especially if you’re spread too thin or multitasking.
They can be led to the wrong presumption that their business can operate solely on their expertise, forgetting that there are important business activities that need to be done. For example, the most commonly delegated or outsourced business tactic is social media management. Most company leaders just don’t know the ins and outs of social media marketing, but it truly is a necessity in growing a business.
Yet, they continue to simply push it aside “until next quarter” instead of delegating the task.
Owners who are constantly running around trying to do far too many tasks will have a difficulty finding the time to hire, train, and onboard others. Because when onboarding someone to their business, you need to invest time to train and guide the new hire. It can be tedious, time consuming, and frustrating to do, but at the end of the day it will significantly free up your time.
You just have to dedicate the time and energy to do it to benefit you and your business in the long run.
Some business owners claim that hiring another person to do the work they can do, is costly, and they cannot afford it. Why hire someone else when you can barely pay for yourself? Their mindset is that whatever extra funds the business makes, it should go right back into building the business or to their pockets.
But what if I told you, that there was a way to delegate tasks to a capable virtual assistant for only $5 an hour? I probably have your attention now, don’t I?
I have built my business by effectively delegating tasks to a capable team of 20 virtual assistants that have helped me grown my revenue consistently every month.
